Vous me pardonnerez cette journée de retard sur mon post du dimanche, Papa Noël a eu le dernier mot hier. Mais le voici, le voilà ce post alors : qu'avons-nous appris cette semaine ?

You'll forgive me for being one day late with my Sunday post, but Santa got the last word yesterday. But here it comes so what did we learn last week ?

ELLES VONT RATER LA RENTREE / THEY'LL MISS THE BELL

 Maria Sharapova et Venus Williams ne seront pas là pour la rentrée des classes. Le cas de la première semble en revanche moins inquiétant que celui de la seconde. La Russe ne se juge pas encore suffisamment remise de la blessure à la cheville qui a gâché sa toute fin de saison. Elle a donc déclaré forfait pour le tournoi de Brisbane, mais affirme qu'elle sera bien à Melbourne pour l'Open d'Australie. Ce forfait me surprend un peu car il semblait pourtant qu'elle s'entraînait normalement depuis un bon moment. En attendant, arriver sur un tournoi du Grand Chelem sans match officiel sera un challenge.

Maria Sharapova and Venus Williams won't be there when the bell will ring at the start of the season. Issues of the first one seem less worrying than those of the last one. The Russian feels she's still not ready to come back because of the ankle injury that wasted the end of her last season. So she's out of Brisbane but says she'll be in Melbourne for the Australian Open. I'm a bit surprised still by her withdrawal because she looked like she was training normally since a good time. Let's hope nothing went bad and that it's just wise precaution. Anyway, arriving in a Grand Slam without any official match under her belt will be a challenge.

Venus Williams de son côté reste un mystère. Réapparue lors de matches exhibition avec sa soeur ces dernières semaines, l'Américaine a pourtant déclaré forfait pour le tournoi d'Auckland. Elle n'a plus joué depuis août et cette annonce assez inquiétante de la maladie auto-immune dont elle est victime. La reverra-t-on un jour sur un court de tennis ? Il semble que l'alarmisme ne soit pas encore de circonstance, puisqu'elle maintient qu'elle sera bien à Melbourne ou en tous cas qu'elle fait tout pour et n'a pas l'intention d'arrêter. Mais plus le temps passe et plus je commence à me dire que cette saison, qu'elle ne jouera sans doute pas en entier, sera peut-être sa dernière. En espérant soit me tromper, soit qu'elle finisse sur un bang. V le mérite bien.

Venus Williams remains a mystery. Back on court for exhibitions with her sister, she's now out of the Auckland tournament. As of today she hasn't played any official match since august when she told the world about her illness. But let's not get too pessimist too soon about her chances to play again because she still says she'll play in Melbourne or at least will try and has no intention to stop. But time is flying and I start to wonder if this season, that I doubt she'll be playing it full, could be her last. I hope I'm wether wrong or that she'll go out in a last bang. V is deserving it so much.

BRAD DREWETT, NOUVEAU BOSS / BRAD DREWETT, NEW BOSS

Le feuilleton de l'ATP a pris fin : le nouveau patron sera l'Australien Brad Drewett. Ancien joueur et surtout un habitué de la direction de l'ATP et du business en général puisqu'il se charge entre autres des marchés asiatiques et de l'organisation du Masters de fin de saison à Londres. Pas de rupture donc, l'affaire reste en famille. Candidat conu depuis longtemps, pourquoi avoir mis six mois pour lui donner le poste ? Sans doute parce qu'il n'était pas le premier choix. A lui maintenant de faire mentir les sceptiques. 

ATP thriller is over : the new boss of the Tour will be the Australian Brad Drewett. Ex player but more important someone already in the know of the Tour direction since years with, among other duties, being dealing with the asian market and directing the ATP World Tour Finals in London. He was wanting the job since a long time so why did it took six months to pick him ? Certainly because he wasn't the first choice. So now it's up to him to prove he owns the job.

LA WTA PERD SONY ERICSSON / WTA LOST SONY ERICSSON

Le partenariat débuté en 2005 et qui a permis au circuit féminin de récolter 88 millions de dollars est terminé. Comme annoncé par Bloomberg en exclusivité cette semaine, Sony Ericsson a décidé de se désengager après 2012. D'autres partenaires sont là évidemment mais il reste qu'il sera sans doute nécessaire de trouver un nouveau volontaire d'envergure. Le groupe justifie son retrait par une évolution de sa stratégie, après notamment le rachat d'Ericsson par Sony. La WTA prend acte et peut se consoler avec la signature d'un accord récemment avec Perform. En attendant le prochain poids lourd commercial qui viendra miser sur les femmes.

The partnership started in 2005 and which brought 88 millions $ to the WTA is over. As announced by Bloomberg this week, Sony Ericsson won't renew his deal with the WTA after 2012. Others are still remaining of courrse but WTA may still need to find an other big partner to make up for this loss. The brand justified its move by a change of strategy, not to forget that Sony bought Ericsson not so long ago. The WTA can still enjoy the Perform deal signed recently. And wait the next big commercial champ that will be interesting to invest on the women game.

DJOKOVIC, BRO TIME


Novak Djokovic on WhoSay

Novak Djokovic est à Abu Dhabi et il a emmené son frère Marko dans les bagages. Le petit dernier Djordje en revanche n'est pas dans les parages. Entre les sessions d'entraînement, le duo serbe n'a pas résisté à un petit tour en chameau et ça donne lieu à quelques photos bien sympa alors allez voir le reste sur son compte twitter (@djokernole) ;) Il retrouvera Rafael Nadal et Roger Federer à la fin du mois pour ce tournoi exhibition. J'espère qu'on lui a dit qu'il ne pourra pas emmener l'ami chameau à Melbourne...

Novak Djokovic is in Abu Dhabi and he brought his younger brother Marko with him. The youngest one Djordje is not around. So between training sessions, the serbian duet hasn't been able to resist a camel ride. Aren't they cute on their camels ? Soon he'll be fighting again with Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer in this exhibition at the end of the month. I just hope someone told him he won't be able to get this camel with him in Melbourne...

Caroline Wozniacki est dans les 30 en-dessous de 30 ans du classement Forbes, Ana Ivanovic continue d'employer et de virer ses coaches et/ou préparateurs physiques (cette fois c'est le physio qui a été remercié, à qui le tour ?), Jelena Jankovic a un nouveau coach inconnu au bataillon, Henner Nehles, qui fait partie désormais d'un staff relocalisé à Las Vegas, Marat Safin pris en photo à la Douma et, oui, il est sans doute le plus sexy des députés, le camp de Roger Federer a annoncé qu'il n'y aurait pas de double mixte avec Martina Hingis aux Jeux Olympiques.  A bientôt et joyeuses fêtes !!

Caroline Wozniacki has made the 30 under 30 list of Forbes, Ana Ivanovic has still a thing with hiring and sacking staff wether it's coaches or physio (this time it was the last one), Jelena Jankovic is all in Las Vegas mood with a new staff hired there and among them a new coach I had no idea he was existing : Henner Nehles, Marat Safin pictures in the Duma make one thing sure : he's the sexiest deputy around, Roger Federer people have announced that he won't be playing with Martina Hingis in the Olympics.
